About Dr. Judith Hamilton
When people wonder about Dr. Judith Hamilton of Let's Talk About Aging, I think of the many experiences that have shaped me. I am an older, professional woman — happily married again for seventeen years — with an adult married son, and two modern grandchildren living in a nearby city. I also have relatives across Canada and the US, as well as in England and Israel. My personal life and my clinical work have both taught me that aging brings complexity, reflection, loss, adjustment, and opportunity.
My Personal Life
I was born and raised on the prairies of western Canada. I came to Toronto for university and have lived here ever since, loving the city and making it my home, in several locations. Over the years, I have rented apartments and owned houses. For the past three decades, I have been a serious gardener wherever I lived.
My Work
I have always been and continue to be devoted to my professional work. As now an older woman, I have had many experiences in my life, both joyful and painful. As a therapist, I have also heard about different life experiences and challenges from a wide variety of patients. Learning from all these experiences helps me provide better psychotherapy and counseling services in the work I love. I currently have a home office in midtown-Toronto, west of Bayview Ave., south of the 401 Highway.
My Teaching and Supervision Work
I employ an interactive, generous, and kind approach to teaching and supervising. Based on comments and evaluation forms, the people I teach and supervise appreciate me for communicating clear instructions, presenting structured learning materials, and contextualizing aspects of the material. I try to relate to both patients and students in a way that is accessible and supportive.
